Inspiration
: Need of safe space from the greatest pain. Spaces that are protected from verbal and physical violence. Water diminishes those. It filters the noise and physical damage.
I wished to make space that becomes a vessel for preserving my memories with a subtle and careful approach that requires a careful manner. Baby them in a way, where they can be protected, looked after.
‘Living like water’ to me
is about letting go of those times and being able to embrace and look after them in a secure, expansive space.
Collected rocks from Suggam settling, secured
Bed-like, dream-like quality comfort and cozy with the risk of being shattered, about to disappear at any moment.
/
floating fragments of memories
preserving memories from a psychological and physical distance
with an awareness of the contradictory qualities of them
reforming and reflecting in a secure place
capturing the in-betweenness, fluidity of times and memories and flux in the materiality
Tank with numbers
letting the time, memories, and life be part of the water, in a controlled-access environment
Being able to reflect and watch
the sense of detachment from the reality of the underwater world
the glass barrier of the tank creates a physical and psychological separation.
To me, safety is about trust,
It relies on the trust of the environment.
the tension between the safety and the risk
the number becomes a field
Ever stretching constructed, infinite
collected rocks from where it’s known to be a place where you can sleep deeply in feng shui geographical features. - Sugam Valley
Interested in capturing the contradicting qualities of secure habitat and materiality
⁃ water is soft-yielding but strong,
⁃ glass is also solid but malleable
⁃ can hold it and secure it l but has a constant risk of shattering, disappearing, or transforming it
Pushing the boundaries between two contradicting qualities of security, water
Individuals may attribute personal significance to certain numbers based on their experiences, beliefs, or preferences.
Q. I am trying to work out..
Is this space constraint or safe?
questioning the tension
What’s the relationship between water, rock glass and mirror?
And what does it signify? What does it mean?
To what extent do I want the work to be read?
